GENERAL INFORMATION ON MONTAGU
From Cape Town, you pass through Worcester, Robertson
and Ashton. After Ashton you enter the Little Karoo
through Cogmanskloof( home to the British fort ) and into
Montagu. Montagu is the western gateway to the Klein Karoo,
situated on the route 62 between the Waboom- & Langeberg
mountain, halfway between Cape Town and the Garden Route.
The town has a peaceful atmosphere with it’s farm like
appearance and beautiful Cape Dutch Homesteads.

Still today Montagu produces the most superb muscadel and
most of the regions deciduous fruit is sent to Ashton via
Kogmanskloof to be canned. Visitors are attracted by the
healthy climate, the mineral springs, the variety of
architectural styles, the rock formations, scenic hiking
trails, tractor rides up the Langeberg, down hill cycling
and wine tasting. Herbs are also known to this region and
various types like: weeblaar, gifbol, blue sage, wild
elderberry and balderjan are found here.
